Hello, expert member, I would like to ask if someone can reply this discussion? Thank you…
I found the readings from social class revealing they give an inside on how social class actually affects us more than we think. Social class regards the economic status, the level of education, and the ability to access necessities for life. Social class causes a great division among the citizens of the nation. The difference in class occurs because of diverse levels of income, education and the ability to advance. America comprises of the high class, middle class, and the low class regarding wealth. The upper class tends to live an isolated life from the middle class and the low-class. The low-class finds it difficult to access resources as compared to the people in the high class. “People of lower socioeconomic status have less access to important resources like quality health care.” (Rothenberg’s 2007). For example, access to medical care, low-class people cannot afford as much health care, or newer treatments, or as much treatment as the high class. Differences in mortality rates from cancer, depending on whether you had insurance. It also found differences in diabetes and kidney care. Also, It affects access to healthy foods and nutrition awareness. Many studies have shown that the lower classes tend to be obese, and in part that is because they don’t spend the extra money on fresh foods, lean meats, and foods that you have to have the energy to prepare. Education is also affected. No private school. No high property tax pay rates in poverty areas, so less money for schools, even with state “balancing” across districts and schools “People in lower classes have less access to opportunities like education and often live in worse neighborhoods.” (Rothenberg’s (2007). Lastly, work safety. How is a lawyer, banker, accountant or insurance agent going to get hurt – paper cut? Compare that to a miner, migrant farm, warehouse worker, oilfield worker or a truck driver. And once you are hurt in a physical occupation, your ability to work until you are 65 greatly diminishes. “The gap between the richest Americans and the poorest Americans is much larger than in many other industrialized nations.” (Rothenberg’s 2007).Those who do not know are associated with poverty and not recognized within the nation. Unlearned individuals have low self-esteem, and this makes them hold moderate positions in the society.
