Are there any places in the text in which you felt, as the reader, that Jane was hiding something from us, or that she was being an unreliable narrator?

After the chronology (finishing on page xxxiv of the Penguin version) there is a facsimile of the title page as it looked when Jane Eyre was first published. On this page, it calls Jane Eyre “An Autobiography,” which implies that Jane is writing her life story at some later time than when the events first took place. This also implies that Jane–as the narrator–is exercising more narrative control over the story than a book narrator usually does. Are there any places in the text in which you felt, as the reader, that Jane was hiding something from us, or that she was being an unreliable narrator?

Remember that posts should be between 150 and 250 words. Responses should be about 75-100 words.

Remember that in MLA format, we cite sources like so: If we want to cite the line, “Do you never laugh, Miss Eyre?” you would put the quote in quotation marks (“https://www.sweetstudy.com/”) and follow that with the author’s last name and the page number in parenthesis: (Bronte 162).
